As part of the governments overhaul of procurement in the public sector they established regional organisations (Centres of Excellence) to co-ordinate each individual regions changes.
Here is the North East our Centre has initiated a project to develop simpler and standardised tender documents. Suppliers have been critical in the past of the different types of tenders used by individual local authorities and the use of complext terms and conditions.
A leading firm of solicitors have been appointed to review existing documentation and to form an agreement with all our local authorities to use the same types of tenders.
This is a complex process but it will involve detailed consultation with representatives of local suppliers including the North East Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses.
